Worklog Update

Yesterday, I bought a 18.5" acer monitor to use as the mounted display.  After I took off the POS base, the screen weighs in @ ~6.5 lb.  I think the frame should be able to handle that ^_^

I also did the last bit of etching on the panel and then spent 4 hours using the pin bit and my dremel stylus to clean it up.  lots of overbite, but I can cover that up.  I just need to decide If I'm gonna paint it black and use the silver accent like the mobo tray, or keep it uncovered apart from some clearcoat.  Pics in prev post.

worklog week3 update

So I started workign on the etch.  First run didn't turn out so hot.  This go around, I used a negative toner transfer, clearcoated that, then scratched out the holes.  It works pretty good.  I wish I had taken it out a little earlier, but I'll survive.  I'll clean it out with a dremel with a pin bit.

worklog 3rd week

So, I spent yesterday fitting the 1/8" plywood panels to the frame, and the frame to the base.  It took some creative routing & trimming, but it fits now.  I decided to support the mobo tray with a swiveling bar of acrylic that locks into place.  It's pretty nifty, I'll post pics later.  I tested the painted mobo tray, and it's too big by an inch, so I had to go and cut on my beautiful paint job :(

Worklog 2nd Week

worked off and on this week.  I finished the 1/4 plexi apart from the front panel.  I also designed the switchboard and wiring for the front panel.  I cut the 1/4 russian birch plywood after redesigning the panels to save wood.  I'll post scans of the aesthetic changes I made.  Also bolted together the frame, bought more mounting hardware, created the front panel d-sub connector, bent the acrylic support panel with a household iron.

worklog day 7

Today I started cutting the acrylic using the laminate trimmer I found in the closet.  It's a dream to use, but my arms and back do get tired pretty quick.  I'm also not sure how eco-friendly the acrylic shavings are...  I've got a lot of it.  I only finished the smaller sheet of acrylic, but that's the one with most of the rack parts, so lots of slots and the like.  The bigger sheet (36x30) should be a bit less work as most of it is straight lines.  I did forget that I need anoher layer on the rack, so I will also need to make that from the leftover acrylic tmrw along with the rest of the pieces.
